About Us - Our Philosophy

Our Hospital slogan is "Pets are Special". Our pets in our family and the families of our employees are special members of our family. They warm our hearts with love and devotion for us. They make us smile and laugh, each with their own very special personality. They are special because though their lives are so preciously short they live each day with fun, energetic, enthusiasm and at least 200 tail wags. They fill our hearts and home with love. They leave us with so many gifts of precious memories that we sacrifice the pain and sorrow we feel each time we have to say good bye to our adopted "child". Pets are Special and we treat them with the love and respect they have earned 200 times over.

Mrs Kersting is a Registered Nurse. From her 14 years in the nursing field, she came away with many ideas on how to run a Veterinary Hospital. A nurse has a vital responsibility to their patient to oversee and be responsible for their patients care. This means knowing and understanding the patient's illness, what medications are being given, how they work and whether they are being given to the patient correctly. It doesn't matter what the doctor says if the doctor is mistaken in their directions. A nurse is legally responsible to the patient for following a doctor's orders which are incorrect. This brought home to Mrs Kersting a need to thoroughly and accurately chart on each Veterinary patient as if they were a human patient.

Dr. Kersting and Mrs Kersting have made every hospital policy center around the issue of how would we like our pets handled and treated. No one is ever allowed to hit a patient. No one is allowed to talk disrespectfully to a patient. All patients are to be kept warm, clean and comfortable. We believe our Hospital should be very clean and odor free. We believe this is necessary psychological well being and for disease prevention. We believe in using good pain control to minimize stress. We believe that family members can be with their pet during a physical exam, during a diagnostic test, during surgery or during a hospital stay. There is no procedure that we perform that the owner can not watch and be with their family pet. This "Open" policy is in place because we have nothing to hide. We are only trying to do our best and to help each patient. There is a natural feeling of distrust when a patient is taken to the "Back" to be worked on at another Hospital and you are not able to go with them. We believe it is very comforting to you and your pet if you are with them every step of the way. We believe that visiting your pet in the hospital or staying all day with them is extremely beneficial to your pet's well-being and recovery. We believe that family can come and go during office hours to see their pets and this includes Sundays. Show up unannounced anytime. This is how Dr. Kersting and his staff would want it when it is their own pets having tests or staying in the Hospital. It is also very interesting to see what is done behind the scenes at other Hospitals. There is no behind the scenes at our Hospital.

Please make note of the after-hour emergency service we offer. We recommend a full physical exam once a year and send out reminders to all patients.
